Abstract
third state (with beard), full-length portrait of a middle-aged Abraham Lincoln in a dark suit, standing with his right hand resting on a rolled document inscribed with "Constitutional Freedom" that sits on a table; a few books and a small lamp are also on the table; an ornate chair is behind him and to his left; there is a halo around the lamp because the plate was reused and had originally depicted a globe there; additionally, Lincoln's head replaced John C. Fremont's, which accounts for a slight halo around his head as well (see remarks)
