Abstract
This thesis examines the change United States war memorials underwent after the Vietnam War ended in 1975 and when the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial was created in 1982. The first memorials analyzed are the Marine Corps Memorial, the Lincoln Memorial, and the Gettysburg National Military Park, which were all built prior to the Vietnam memorial. The stark differences of the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial are then examined. The Korean War Veteran's Memorial, the National WWII Memorial, and the 9/11 Memorial in New York City conclude the study of memorials built after the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial. These separate sets of memorials represent most of the major wars the U.S. fought in its history, or significant events and individuals that are vital to the specific war.

Abstract
While most Civil War history deals with a glorified and romanticized version of a soldier's experience of war, the time a soldier spent combating the idleness of camp proved to be a more consuming battle. Though lacking in grandeur, how a soldier 'killed time' provides an important yet often overlooked insight into the camaraderie and culture of Civil War soldiers. Historians that have looked into camp amusements and vices tend not to go beyond the soldiers psychological need to mentally manage the war. This thesis takes their theory a step further. Examining soldiers' records of their experiences in camp activities in date order and by season reveals distinct patterns of criticism, disassociation, indifference, and participation. Furthermore, analyzing their observations based on rank shows the antagonistic relationship between officers and soldiers based on discipline and behavior.

Abstract
The term glucoside has been applied to those compounds which have the property of supplying, upon hydrolysis, a sugar and one or more other products. Nearly all organic compounds which occur in plants (fruit, bark, roots) are in combination with a sugar. They all resemble the simple methyl glucosides. In many cases, the glucoside form is more soluble than the substance itself. Naturally occurring glucosides are prepared by extracting from the plant, by means of a solvent such as water or alcohol. Glucosides are synthesized (generally) from the non-saccharide constituent and acetobromoglucose in the presence of AgO or Ag2CO3. The rates of hydrolysis of glucosides vary widley. They are hydrolyzed in the presence of mineral acids or enzymes, the rate increasing with increasing temperature. The ordinary physiochemical laws governing reversible reactions apply here.
The US government has invested over $3 trillion in financial assistance programs and bailouts for ailing companies affected by the 2007-2009 financial crisis. This paper analyzes the different government policy efforts in response to the collapse of the U.S. financial sector and whether these efforts increased the risk of moral hazard for small, medium, and large banks. Moral hazard occurs when a company has an incentive to take greater risks than it otherwise would, because the company gains all the benefits from excessive risk-taking, but does not bear all of the losses. I measure moral hazard through the debt-to-equity ratio, interest rate spreads, and risk ratings on new loan originations for a select group of small, medium, and large banks. This paper is different from previous studies because I analyze the issues of public transparency, accountability and policy clarity during and after the financial crisis. This analysis is done in the context of the dynamic relationship between democratically elected government bodies of Congress and the Presidency and politically appointed bodies of the Federal Reserve and the U.S. Treasury. The results indicate that government policies preceding and during the financial crisis increased the risk of moral hazard on the part of large banks, but not for medium and small banks. In addition, the failure of government policy to establish a clear plan of action further exacerbated the issue of moral hazard. This suggests that 'too-big-to-fail' remains a systemic risk to the financial sector despite efforts to attenuate it.
