Abstract

Leo Kwartler was born in Galicia in 1901 in the beautiful Carpathian Mountains on the Hungarian border. At the beginning of World War I, with the Russian Army approaching from the east, Kwartler's widowed mother took her four children and fled along with thousands of other Jewish families in fear for their lives.

Abstract

Jack Koenigsberg was born in Eastern Galicia in 1900. He tells the story of growing up in the only Jewish family in his little town and then later evacuating ahead of the Russian Army at the start of World War I. Landing first in Bohemia and then in Vienna, Jack eventually made his way to the United States in 1923.

Abstract

Hyman Ostrow was a refugee in Kishinev, Romania for three years after the pogroms in Ukraine and managed to get work for himself and fellow refugees. When Romania expelled the Jewish refugees, he made his way to New York and worked hard to establish himself. He was a member of the Raananah Park community in Orange County, New York.
