Hyman Ostrow was a refugee in Kishinev, Romania for three years after the pogroms in Ukraine and managed to get work for himself and fellow refugees. When Romania expelled the Jewish refugees, he made his way to New York and worked hard to establish himself. He was a member of the Raananah Park community in Orange County, New York.
